Nearer is out on the App Store

A small app for two — close by and far apart

Nearer is an app for two. It's on the App Store, and this is the first entry in this journal.

Why another app for couples

You already have a messenger. You definitely don't need another one.

Nearer isn't about texting. It's about what happens between the messages: small daily actions that cost nothing but add up to the feeling that you're close. One button instead of "hey, what are you up to". One question you both answer. One number on your home screen reminding you how long you've been together.

It works just as well when you live together and when there are kilometres between you. It's just needed more at a distance.

What's inside

Nudges. One tap to say "I miss you", "thinking of you", "wish I could hug you". No occasion needed, nothing to come up with.

The daily question. One question a day that you both answer. Your partner's answer only appears after you've written your own — otherwise it turns into copying.

Shared dates. An anniversary, a trip, a holiday, a birthday. With a countdown to the closest one.

A home screen widget. Your days together and the next date, without opening the app.

Wishes. A list of things you want to do together, so "we should go sometime" turns into something real.

Privacy

Whatever you write to each other belongs to the two of you. The app doesn't need your contacts, doesn't read your messages in other apps and doesn't ask for anything it doesn't need. A couple is created by invitation — no people search, no "you may know".

How to start

  1. Install the app;
  2. send your partner an invitation;
  3. after that — a few taps a day, no more.

What's next

This is the beginning. In this journal I'll write about what appears in the app and why — not as a dry changelog, but in plain words.

Thanks for being here.
